Help Your Friends to Know the Bible
Learn to handle the Bible without fear or intimidation. The Bible is the Word of God—a message of love, justice, truth, mercy, favor, guidance, and abundant life for us.
The first thing we will learn is how many books there are and what they contain. Go to the index or table of contents. There are two main sections in the Bible:
The larger section is called the Old Testament.
The smaller section is called the New Testament.
The Old Testament begins with Genesis and ends with Malachi, containing 39 books.
The New Testament begins with Matthew and ends with Revelation, containing 27 books.
Altogether, the Bible has 66 books.
In the index:
The first column lists the names of the books.
The second column shows the abbreviations of each name.
The third column indicates the number of chapters in each book.
The fourth column gives the page number where each book begins.
Each book is divided into chapters, and each chapter into verses.
Chapters are represented by large numbers (for example, Matthew 3).
Verses are represented by small numbers (for example, verse 10).
So when we read Matthew 3:10, it means the Book of Matthew, Chapter 3, Verse 10.
Ask God, through His Holy Spirit—yes, pray in your own words—to give you spiritual understanding, intelligence, and wisdom to comprehend the Word of the Lord. May every cultural and religious veil be removed from your life so you can fully receive the truth.
Rejoice always!
